The Flying Pig Parade 2024
THIS FESTIVE AFFAIR IS LIKE NO OTHER. IT’S LIKE TAKING A BATH IN LAUGHTER. THE PIG CELEBRATES EVERYTHING WILD AND WONDERFUL ABOUT LIVING IN NORTH CENTRAL FLORIDA. It is a light-hearted version of a traditional holiday parade. Its chief engineer, Glenn Terry, says, “Again we’ll be celebrating all that’s wild and wonderful about Hogtown while poking fun at the year gone by”. Most know ”Hogtown” was Gainesville’s original name. Over fifty groups have signed up to march. They include Sgt. Pepper’s Heart Throb Band, Pigs in a Blanket, and The Rhythm Method Drum Line. The Flying Pig Parade is a great way to begin your new year celebration.

The Flying Pig Parade
Breaking News, We did it!

Hello Everyone, It’s hard to say how much I appreciate everyone who helped make the pig fly yesterday. But fly she did and it was spectacular, the Flying Pig Parade was the realization of a dream I’ve had for years. I see folks are enjoying it today all over social media. I know I am. Here’s a batch of photos from one skilled photographer… https://www.facebook.com/stilljustabillphotography/ and a 16-minute drone shot (just the first third, accompanied by cheesy music) by my friend, Dan, that’s pretty cool. https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-e&q=flying+pig+parade#fpstate=ive&ip=1&vld=cid:f5ca38d3,vid:V7IOY6hPz0Q,st:0 Yep, we made somethin’ happen! Time to start planning for next year. -Glenn
Last Year’s FPP 2023 articles
It’ll take wing in Downtown Gainesville, Florida, on December 30th. Our procession will be impossibly cute and enormous fun for both participants and spectators. As temperatures rise and the world gets crazier we need a good laugh… a humongous laugh! A sassy processional led by smiling swine can do that.
Anyone can be in the parade as long as they are colorful and entertaining – think costumes, dancing, music, and theatrical performances. Giant puppets will engage and inspire. Presidential contenders will fight with pillows and happy fish will gush about sea level rise (their motto, “You can’t have too much water!”). Click to read more.
We’ll all be strutting our stuff when pigs finally fly here in Hogtown
